چکیده

Thermoelectric phenomena in photoexcited graphene have been the topic of several theoretical and experimental studies because their potential usefulness optoelectronic applications. However, available descriptions thermoelectric effect terms Seebeck coefficient do not take into account role electron density. In this work, we adopt concept effective [G.D. Mahan, J. Appl. Phys. 87, 7326 (2000)] extend it to case a two-dimensional (2D) gas. We calculate for graphene, compare commonly used "phenomenological" coefficient, show how depends on density temperature. Our results are necessary inputs any quantitative microscopic theory effects related 2D materials.

Effective medium theory for disordered two-dimensional graphene

We develop an effective medium theory to study the electrical transport properties of disordered graphene. The theory includes nonlinear screening and exchange-correlation effects allowing us to consider experimentally relevant strengths of the Coulomb interaction. Assuming random Coulomb impurities, we calculate the electrical conductivity as a function of gate voltage describing quantitativel...

Polycrystalline graphene and other two-dimensional materials.

Graphene, a single atomic layer of graphitic carbon, has attracted intense attention because of its extraordinary properties that make it a suitable material for a wide range of technological applications. Large-area graphene films, which are necessary for industrial applications, are typically polycrystalline - that is, composed of single-crystalline grains of varying orientation joined by gra...

Protocols for the high temperature measurement of the Seebeck coefficient in thermoelectric materials

In Seebeck coefficient metrology, the present diversity in apparatus design, acquisition methodology and contact geometry has resulted in conflicting materials data that complicate the interlaboratory confirmation of reported high efficiency thermoelectric materials. To elucidate the influence of these factors in the measurement of the Seebeck coefficient at high temperature and to identify opt...

Theory of Raman enhancement by two-dimensional materials: Applications for graphene-enhanced Raman spectroscopy

We propose a third-order time-dependent perturbation theory approach to describe the chemical surfaceenhanced Raman spectroscopy of molecules interacting with two-dimensional (2D) surfaces such as an ideal 2D metal and graphene, which are both 2D metallic monolayers. A detailed analysis is performed for all the possible scattering processes involving both electrons and holes and considering the...

Theory of thermopower in two-dimensional graphene

Motivated by recent experiments by Yuri M. Zuev et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 102, 096807 2009 , Peng Wei et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 102, 166808 2009 , and Joseph G. Checkelsky et al. Phys. Rev. B 80, 081413 R 2009 , we calculate the thermopower of graphene incorporating the energy dependence of various transport scattering times. We find that scattering by screened charged impurities gives a reasonable...
